With fall just weeks away and a busy time of year

With fall just weeks away and a busy time of year coming for family sessions and engagement sessions here in Southern California, I wanted to give some tips for choosing the right location for your photos.

Comfort is key! Pick a place where everyone can relax and be themselves. Personal spots always bring out real emotions and connections. A favorite beach you enjoy taking walks at, a neighborhood street lined with trees or even your home can be perfect. Ultimately you want these photos to feel like you and being comfortable is a great way to do that.

Light matters! Soft, natural light (hellooooo golden hour!) flatters everyone and adds that dreamy, warm glow to your photos. The best time for your session is usually right before sunset or around sunrise.

What do you want the overall vibe to be? Think about the story you want to tell. Urban? Nature? Beach? Your location should match the mood you want for your photos. And your outfit choices should also complement the vibe and location.

Tide times! This really only pertains to those beach locations, specifically in Orange County but tide times play a huge factor in photos at the beach. There are quite a few beaches that completely lose their sand during high tide which makes it impossible to photograph at. Tide charts typically come out about 30 days before.

Permits…Some locations DO require permits. I always make it known beforehand if a location does need a permit and the cost associated with that permit.

When in doubt ask your photographer! I’m always happy to help my families and couples find the right location that is going to tell their story the best. Can’t wait to see a lot of you in the coming months for your family sessions and engagement photos! ✨

Just a casual day at the beach having fun and soaking up all those family moments and special time shared together🌤️

I remember when family sessions meant everyone dressed up super fancy and wore the heels, dress shirts, ties, etc. I love that nowadays we just want these more casual vibes to focus more on the moments together and are really prioritizing presence over perfection. I am all for it and love how cozy & home-y it makes photos feel👏🏻

Our Southern California beaches are so pretty and make for such a great backdrop for family photos, engagement sessions, proposals, etc. We almost had a completely empty beach for this session and it was amazing! That rarely happens here in So Cal!

I got to hang out with this sweet family for the second summer in a row! They live on the East Coast but were out here vacationing and visiting Grandma and Grandpa. I love that we got to photograph them all together and document their time together.

I would say about 50-60% of the people I photograph are all from out of town. They find me here on Instagram or by doing a Google search which I think is so cool. Social media and technology has come such a long way since I began my business back in 2010. I just had someone find me using chatgpt and I didn’t even know that was possible!

The two best compliments you can receive as a photographer is being referred to family and friends and being invited back by past clients to photograph more milestones, events and moments in life.

Before entering parenthood, a lot of the families I photograph started in front of my camera as a newly engaged couple planning their wedding. To be able to go through the engagement sessions, the weddings, the lifestyle newborn sessions and now documenting them every year as the kids grow is something so special to me. I adore getting to watch their love grow and grow just as their family does.

Alyssa & Gunner were one of my amazing 2023 wedding couples and now they are a family of three (actually four🐾). I loved getting to spend time with them again and meet their beautiful baby boy and the proud big sister who posed so well in that last photo.
